State of the art algorithm

The measurement of brachial blood pressure with the oscillometric method is widely used, while the measurement of blood pressure in the lower extremities is brand new.

Following accurate and extended research and development, we have decided to use the strongly related non-parametric regression method. We use smoothing with the help of locally weighted scatterplot smoothing for the envelope of the oscillations.

Sensing in micrometers of mercury

During the inflation and deflation of pressure in the cuffs, oscillations are collected. The most modern sensors and analogue-to-digital converters allow MESI ABPI MD sensing to 4.6 micrometers of mercury and thus enable accurate results.

 

The sensitivity level is so high that it is analogous to a man weighing 100 kilos being able to notice small drop of blood, which is required for his glucose test.

Improved Error Detection

Never before has any medical device been this supportive. In order to create a device with reliable results, it is crucial to detect potential errors and eliminate them.

 

Thanks to an improved error detection system, MESI ABPI MD will alert the operator to any irregularities which have occurred during the measurement process. For example, if the cuff has been poorly placed or if the patient has been moving during the measurement, the error message will be displayed on the screen.

More data, better accuracy.

How much information can be saved or how much data can be processed are both questions that require answers. Basic medical devices for measuring blood pressure have limited memory capacity and data processing and the calculation is made from just few heart beats.

That is why we not only integrated a high capacity micro-controller with ARM processor core but also integrated additional memory. Consequently, we can determine blood pressure based on a greater number of heart beats, which makes the results more accurate and more reliable. In addition, every result is double-checked before appearing on the screen.

Even 5 mmHg are important for the accuracy of the Ankle-Brachial Index measurement.

 

MESI ABI MD has specially designed algorithm based on the oscillometric method (one of the plethysmographic techniques), which is independent of the operator and therefore ensures objective measuring of ABI – the subjectivity of the operator is thus excluded.

Regardless of who performs the measurement, whether it is a physician or a nurse, regardless of the disturbances  in the office, and whether or not you can feel a pulse on patient's ankle, the measurement result with MESI ABPI MD will always be the same.
